  • Position Summary
    • The Hospital-Based Occupational Therapist is responsible for the evaluation and treatment of various orthopedic, neurological, general and complex medical conditions at inpatient, outpatient and home-health based levels. Evaluation and treatment is based on functional outcomes and utilizes, but is not limited to, Activities of Daily Living skills, therapeutic activities and exercise, and therapeutic modalities.
  • Qualifications
    • Must be a graduate of an American Occupational Therapy Association accredited program and hold minimally a Bachelor's degree, preferably a Master's Degree in Occupational Therapy;
    • Must hold a current and valid Occupational Therapy practice license granted from the New Hampshire Office of Allied Health Professions.
  • Essential Functions of the Job
    • Required skills and competencies. Has competency checklist been completed with all competencies met (i.e. job skills / knowledge, equipment knowledge)
    • Responsible for an initial evaluation, including objective goals, of each patient referred to occupational therapy prior to beginning treatment. Treatment will occur only with a written referral from a health care provider with approved privileges to prescribe occupational therapy services as set forth in the State of New Hampshire Occupational Therapy Practice Act.
    • Responsible for developing a written treatment plan of care in consultation with and approval from the referring provider.
    • Responsible for maintaining current progress notes in the patient's record. Patient progress in relation to goals to be noted, type of treatment rendered and evidence of periodic reviews of the referring provider also to be noted in the record.
    • Ensures that equipment used by the patient is in safe working condition prior to use by the patient and that any unsafe equipment will be reported to the Rehabilitation Services Manager and Maintenance.
    • With the Rehabilitation Services Manager, will maintain patient supplies relative to the Rehabilitation Service Department in reasonable amounts for patient provision.
    • With the Rehabilitation Services Manager, will develop and update policies and procedures relative to occupational therapy practice.
    • Attends meetings as designated by the Rehabilitation Services Manager.
    • Works collaboratively with the Rehabilitation Services Clerk to schedule patients appropriately.
    • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care within adjunct services (i.e. Cardiac Rehab, Pulmonary Rehab).
    • Assists in orientation of Volunteers and newly hired Occupational Therapists.
    • Works with the Rehabilitation Services Manager to develop new programs and collaborate on specific departmental projects based on patient needs;
    • Manages time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met and that personal priorities support organizational objectives.
    • Serves as Activities Director, when designated by the Rehabilitation Services Manager, in accordance with CMS/CAH Guidelines/Regulations (C-0385).
    • Performs all other duties as assigned.
