  • Position Summary
    • The Housekeeper/Laundry person is responsible for maintaining the Weeks Medical Center environment in a clean and safe manner. The Housekeeper/Laundry person is also responsible for processing, storage and distributing of linen under the most sanitary conditions; to ensure that infection control is carried out during the laundering process. Housekeeping/Laundry processes need to be consistent with standards established by Administration in conjunction with the Infection Control and Safety Committees.
  • Qualifications
    • High school education or equivalent is not required, but one must be able to read, understand written documents and write.
    • Ability to read housekeeping schedules and follow oral directions.
    • After training, be able to work independently with little supervision.
    • One year in Housekeeping/Laundry is desirable, but not necessary.
    • Worker should reach full productivity after brief on-the-job training.

    • To perform cleaning and disinfecting functions using the 7 Cleaning Steps. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 1. Empty wastebaskets. 2. High dust. 3. Floor dust. 4. Disinfecting and spot cleaning. 5. Bathroom cleaning. (not applicable in laundry) 6. Floor disinfecting. 7. Your inspection.
    • Cleaning of the following areas following established schedules and using prescribed methods (7 Cleaning Steps). Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Patient rooms (occupied and unoccupied) b. Isolation rooms c. Discharged patient rooms d. Operating room e. Emergency room area f. Non-patient areas g. Laundry (folding, washing, dirty linen rooms)
    • Trash pick-up using proper procedures. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Recyclable b. Infectious c. Regular d. Restocking Bags e. Cleaning of soiled trash containers
    • Linen runs. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. All floors (OR, ER, SSU , M/S FLOORS, ONCOLOGY, X-RAY) b. At proper times (breaks and lunch)
    • Isolation cleaning. Perform cleaning and disinfecting functions, using the 7 Cleaning Steps. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Proper gowning techniques, proper cleaning procedures and use of PPE (personal protection equipment). 1. Empty wastebaskets. 2. High dust. 3. Floor dust. 4. Disinfecting and spot cleaning. 5. Bathroom cleaning. 6. Floor disinfecting. 7. Your inspection. b. Proper disposal of trash and linen
    • Collect soiled linen using proper procedures. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. All floors (OR, ER, SSU, M/S FLOORS, ONCOLOGY, X-RAY) b. Pick up linen at proper times. c. Using proper procedures (gloves, gowns when handling soiled linen, covered laundry carts).
    • Sort and weigh linen. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Weights all linen to be washed by department and puts into cart. b. Records weight on washroom report. c. Sorts according to different categories and wash formulas. d. Only 50 pounds in each washer.
    • Washing linens using proper procedures. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Proper wearing of gowns and gloves. b. Placing soiled linen in washers. c. Rotating chart to select an appropriate wash formula. d. Check chemicals in self-feed dispensers to make sure that they are working properly and that containers have chemicals in them. e. Start washer. f. Wash hands thoroughly.
    • Drying linens using proper procedures. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Load dryers. b. Dry for no less than 25 minutes. c. Cool linen before removing.
    • Folding and distribution of linen. Measure: Exceeds -- greater than 97; Meets -- greater than 90; Needs Improvement -- greater than 89 a. Linen is sorted by markings and folded neatly. b. Carts are loaded according to amounts on charts. c. Linen is inspected to make sure that it is not worn, torn or stained. d. Carts are distributed to each floor in a clean, covered cart.
    • Manages time effectively to ensure that deadlines are met and that personal priorities support organizational objectives.
    • Perform all other duties as assigned.
